The rain is not expected to taper off until later tonight and the normally placid Peckman River is showing signs of strain. The river is moving rapidly and spilling water into backyards along Derwent Avenue.

The National Weather Service has flood warnings out for the Passaic River in Pine Brook and Little Falls, with the river expected to be 9 inches above flood stage by tomorrow evening. Two to three inches of rain have fallen already in our area, with another one to two expected before it is all over.
