Basketball Teams Advance in State Tourney

Both the girls and boys basketball teams handily defeated their opponents in the opening round of state tournament play yesterday. The girls, who played at home, handed Sussex Tech a 47-19 defeat. The boys, who travelled to Butler, cruised to a 67-52 victory.

Noah Herman had 22  for the boys, which included 3 threes and 11 foul shots; Justin Bruso had 19. DonnaJo DiNorcia had a game-high 16, with 8 foul shots, for the girls, who managed to keep the 6-foot Sarah Miebach to 8 points.

Both teams advance to next round of the tournament.  On Wednesday the girls, as second seeds, will play at home again and the boys will travel. Winners of the Wednesday games will play in Friday’s semi-final round. Here’s the link to the Star-Ledger box scores.
