What Happened To The Verona Inn?

The VI is boarded up. No one even bothered to shovel.

We received this email entreaty yesterday: “Can you use your investigative journalism credentials and find out what happened to the Verona Inn? It closed last fall with no explanation, and no word whether it will reopen or be sold off. It was Verona’s version of Tierney’s and I miss it.”

Good question. Besides the fuzzy memories of press reports years ago about a not-so-fair fight at the VI and ensuring criminal charges, we have no idea why it has been shut down. And let’s add that we also remember fun times there, such as St. Patrick’s Day ladies lunches and Stanley Cup kisses at the championship afterparty with local members of the New Jersey Devils. Every town should have a place where “everybody knows your name,” like the bar in Boston immortalized in the Cheers TV show.

So we’re happy to help. But while we’re putting out feelers to town officials, we’ll also put them out to you, the MyVeronaNJ community. Tell us what you know in the comment field below or, if you prefer email us.
