The Yard School of Art at the Montclair Art Museum has announced a series of weekend classes for adults that begin this Sunday, February 21, with “Action Painting.”
The class, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., isn’t about painting sports or moving figures. Instead it promises to encourage spontaneity by teaching students to be more active in their brushwork. The class, which will be taught by Pat Butynski, is $70 for MAM members and $90 for non-members. Also this Sunday, the Yard School is offering “Art Business and Marketing”, which will cover how to approach galleries and use a Web site to maximum advantage. That class, which is $75 for members and $85 for non-members, will be held from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The following Sunday, February 28, will be devoted to “Silk Painting”. Students will be taught how to prepare silk for painting and will learn to achieve different effects with silk paints by using salt and alcohol. The class runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $75 for MAM members, $95 for non-members, plus a $25 materials fee.
Future classes are “Restoration for Your Creativity” on Saturday, March 6; “Color as Subject” on Sunday, March 7; and “Batik on Silk” on Sunday, March 14. For information on registration and a list of suggested supplies, see the school’s Web site.
