The Verona High School baseball team defeated College Achieve Paterson 11-1 on Saturday.
Playing at home, Verona set the tone in the bottom of the first inning, when they put four runs on the scoreboard. They continued to build on that base, and added another four in the bottom of the fourth.
Julian Santorelli delivered a triple, while Matt Vaccaro and Ryan Radigan each had doubles. Vaccaro, who struck out four Paterson batters during his time on the mound, also was credited with three RBIs. Santorelli, Frank Orrei and Matt McMahon had two apiece. RJ Mack, who pitched the back half of the game, struck out six.
The win improves Verona’s record to 5-3 overall, and 3-2 in the Super Essex Conference’s Liberty division. Baseball will be at Barringer in Newark on Monday, before hosting West Orange on Wednesday.
