Helen Catherine Walsh, 99, Verona, formerly of Scranton, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday at home after a long and full life.

She was predeceased by her husband John A. Walsh, as well as two of her daughters, Margaret M. Walsh and Karen M. Roche.

Born in Scranton, she was a resident of Verona for 61 years. A graduate of Lackawanna Business College, she was a devoted wife and stay-at-home mom to her seven children before returning to work when her youngest entered high school. She then worked for C.W. Bollinger Insurance and then New Jersey Bell Telephone/Verizon before retiring in 1995.

She took great pride in her knitting and crocheting abilities and made many beautiful creations for her children and grandchildren. In addition, she was a dedicated member of the “Warming Bee” of St. Joseph’s Church in Lincoln Park, an organization dedicated to donating hand-crafted materials to those in need.

Surviving are two daughters: Susanne M. and Patricia W. Haefeli; three sons: Stephen A, John A. and his wife Noel Walsh, and Richard G. and his wife Deborah Walsh, as well as seven grandchildren: Catherine Ladd and husband Bruce Ladd, Matthew Roche and wife Sharon Roche, Richard Roche, Megan Johnson and husband Ben Johnson, Kevin Walsh, Emily Waldon and husband Dylan Waldon, and Elizabeth Haefeli, and six great-grandchildren: Christopher Ladd, Max Ladd, Evan Roche, Ryan Roche, Kingsley Johnson, Clark Johnson, Sage Johnson and Mason Waldon.

There will be a funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 22 at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Verona. Friends may call Thursday March 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Prout Funeral home in Verona.
