H.B. Whitehorne Middle School has begun a program to recognize students who demonstrate positive character.
“While achievement in academics, athletics, and the arts are important, we believe character is of the utmost importance,” Principal David Galbierczyk wrote in an announcement to parents about the program. “In addition to the HBW pillars of respect, open-mindedness and integrity, students who demonstrate empathy, kindness, perseverance, humility, leadership, and a strong work ethic will be considered for the honor.”
One winner was chosen from each grade for March. They are:
- Grade 5: Stevie Place
- Grade 6: Emmalene Holland
- Grade 7: Bruno Kennedy
- Grade 8: Giovanna Marino
HBW has established a Student of the Month Committee, comprised of a cross-section of its staff and chaired by teacher Ryan Brown, that will solicit nominations from all staff members and meet to discuss each nomination. “The committee encountered a ‘good problem’,” Galbierczyk wrote, “in that there were many nominations for this month’s award, which made selecting the March 2024 winners challenging.”
