The Verona Police Department is saying that there was an attempted burglary in the vicinity of Verona High School and F.N. Brown Elementary School this past Friday, October 27.

According to the VPD, at about 4:11 a.m. on Friday morning, Officer Aaron Seubert observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Kenwood and Fairview avenues. Officer Seubert attempted to get closer, but the car sped through a red light at Fairview and Bloomfield avenues, and then fled east at a high rate of speed. The car had been reported stolen in Ocean Township earlier in the week.

Over the weekend, the VPD says that a resident of the area reviewed their home security camera and found that it showed at least two masked people trying, unsuccessfully, to enter their home through a first-floor window and rear door. The video also showed that these people fled the area in the car that Officer Seubert had attempted to stop.

The police are asking residents to lock all windows and doors, and report any suspicious activity to the main dispatch number, 973-239-5000.
