To the Editor:

It was disappointing that the Board of Education candidate’s forum last week was cancelled at the last minute. I sincerely hope that Mr. Ferry has recovered from COVID. Having had a recent bout of the illness myself, I know that it is no fun.

Absent the forum’s opportunity to learn more about the candidates and without any information about Mr. Ferry’s positions on his website, I urge all Verona voters to read the Q&As with Mike Boone and Dominic Ferry on MyVeronaNJ.

From what I have been able to learn about the candidates, I am supporting Mike Boone for a seat on the Board of Education. Mike has spent countless hours knocking on doors in town and introducing himself to voters. He has been transparent in his platform on education. Mike supports teachers and librarians, is compassionate to marginalized students, and is a proponent of a curriculum that benefits all students – students who are college-bound and need AP classes to compete in the increasingly competitive application process, students who have learning difficulties and require special services, and students who want vocational training to jump start their future careers.

The education of our children is too important to pick sides based on political divides. Vote for the candidate that is best qualified to guide our schools in accordance with the strategic plan that the BOE has worked hard to put into place. I put forth that that candidate is Mike Boone.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Hayter
Verona

  1. I appreciate the information these forums provide on candidates for election. All too often voting is an anonymous approval without knowledge deep enough to be truly beneficial. Knowing who you are voting for is even more important than simply voting.
