Yesterday marked the tenth anniversary of Verona Fights Hunger Week, the town-wide food drive created by the Junior Women’s Club of Verona to benefit food pantries.

This year’s drive collected more than 1,695 bags of food and more than $9,000 in donations. The items collected were delivered to the Food Pantry at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Verona, as well as to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.

This year’s drive ran from October 14 to October 21, and included four shop-and-drops at Kings Food Market in Verona. The Juniors also put donation bins at six locations around town and set up an Amazon wish list. The week ended with a rainy and celebration on the steps of Town Hall as the donations were loaded into a Casella & Sons moving truck for delivery to the two pantries.

  1. Despite the rain, this was once again one of my favorite days of the year to participate in! Great job once again to the Juniors and congrats on 10 years with this wonderful program.
