Gaetano DeSomma, Crossing Guard

The Verona Police Department has announced the sudden passing of Gaetano Desomma, a Verona crossing guard. The VPD says that Desomma worked several different posts, and was most recently assigned to the Pease Avenue at Peters Lane crossing.

A native of Italy who emigrated to America in 1971, Desomma was the owner of Danny D’s Pizzeria in Montclair for 25 years. He became a crossing guard in Verona after retiring from that business.

Services for Desomma will be Monday, October 16, at 10.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Montclair, and are being handled through Caggiano Memorial funeral home. Ynd you can read his full obituary here.

  1. My heartfelt condolences to Mr..Desomma’s family. He did a great job at the crossing near our house – always mindful of the pedestrians crossing a very busy road – and I’m saddened to hear of his passing….
