The Verona Police Department is alerting residents to a burglary that happened on Cambridge Road early Sunday morning.

According to the VPD, at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, two masked and gloved individuals entered a home. The homeowners were sleeping and were unaware of the entry until later that morning. They reported the crime to the police at about 10:30 a.m.

Video from their home security camera shows the two individuals entering the house through an unlocked side door. They left with a small carry bag that was inside the home. The individuals went back in the home shortly after, retrieved a backpack and left again.

The police believe that the intruders were looking for the key fob for the homeowners’ car, which was in the driveway. This is a pattern that has been seen in other towns. They were not able to find it or steal the car. The VPD later found both bags on the side of the road in the Laning side of town.

The police are reminding residents to lock home and car doors, and report any suspicious activity to the dispatch desk at 973-239-5000.
