An alert resident’s early morning call to the Verona Police Department on Father’s Day resulted in three teens being arrested as burglary suspects.
According to the police, at about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, a Cumberland Avenue resident called to report that men were burglarizing a vehicle. Officers Brian McMahon and Alyssa Kirby, and Lt. Anthony Condorelli responded, and located three individuals on Linden Avenue who matched the caller’s description.
The police determined that the three were juveniles, and took them into custody. One of the three was on monitored release but had cut off his ankle bracelet and was wanted by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to the Essex County Youth House. The other two teens were released to guardians.
The VPD has filed multiple charges for burglary and hindering apprehension against the three. It says that the incident is still under investigation and that additional charges could be filed.
The police, which recently issued an alert about an uptick in catalytic converter thefts, once again reminded Verona residents to remove valuables from their cars and lock them.
