The Verona Police Department’s Community Outreach Unit will be running a bicycle “rodeo” for each Verona elementary school this spring. These events will teach students bicycle safety basics and include helmet inspections, bicycle checks and safe riding techniques.

Participating students must come with their own bicycle and helmet, and be able to ride independently with or without training wheels. They must wear their helmet and sneakers while riding. The VPD says parents or guardians are encouraged to stay for the event. All participants must be registered with the Verona Recreation Department’s CommunityPass system.

The bike rodeo kicks off at Brookdale Avenue School on Monday, May 2, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is open to Brookdale students only. The rain date for Brookdale is Tuesday, May 3, at the same time.

Future rodeos will be held at Laning Avenue Elementary School on Wednesday, May 11 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. (rain dale: Thursday, May 12), at Forest Avenue Elementary School on Monday, May 16, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. (rain date: Tuesday, May 17) and F.N. Brown Elementary School on Wednesday, May 25 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. (rain date: Thursday, May 26).
