Over the weekend, Troop 2 held its annual “Turkey in the Woods” event with a morning hike through Eagle Rock Reservation along the Lenape Trail and a Thanksgiving lunch afterwards. Arrow of Light and Webelos from Packs 5 and 32 also participated.
Traditionally, “Turkey in the Woods” is a combination of overnight camping and a formal Thanksgiving feast at Camp Glen Gray in Mahwah, N.J. that started around 1985. Because of the pandemic, this year’s event was modified. Even so, it was still fun and great to get outdoors for a healthy activity and gather afterward to gobble up homemade hot turkey sandwiches with gravy, sides of stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkins donuts, apple cider and hot chocolate.
Scouts and their families are grateful for the Troop and Pack leaders who volunteered their time to assist with the hike and Thanksgiving lunch.
