Mr. Robert P. Akersten, 78, passed away peacefully at Crane’s Mill in West Caldwell on January 6, 2021. Condolences may be left at proutfuneralhome.com.

A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Lakeside Ave., Verona on Monday, January 11 at 10 a.m. Facial masks and social distancing are required.

Born in Newark, Mr. Akersten grew up in North Arlington and lived in Verona for 40 years and Waretown for three years prior to moving to West Caldwell in 2015.

He graduated from Queen of Peace High School and proudly served in the U.S. National Guard from 1960 to 1970.

Mr. Akersten was a vice president with C.J. Lawrence, an investment management company in New York City, for over 30 years.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church and the Verona Lions Club.

Mr. Akersten was predeceased by his wives, Ellen Heding Akersten (1993) and Mary Godley Akersten (2015).

He is survived by his loving daughters, Kirsten Minteer (James) and Amy Miller (Matt); his cherished grandchildren, James and Ellen Minteer and Fionnoula Miller; and his brothers, Kurt, Sr., Peter and Raymond Akersten.
