Thirteen was the lucky number for the Verona High School boys basketball team last night: Seniors Derek Jocelyn, Andrew Emanuilidis and Nick Gonzalez each contributed 13 points to Verona’s 48-34 win over Millburn. In addition to Jocelyn, Emanuilidis and Gonzalez, this year’s seniors also include Will Gaccione, Shane Lawless and Nick Napoli. Emanuilidis has led Verona in scoring this year, with more than 250 points to his credit.
The game started out slowly for Verona, with only seven points to the Millers’ 10 in the first quarter. But the Hillbillies picked up the pace each quarter thereafter as Millburn faded. In the fourth quarter, Verone put up 19 points to just 10 for Millburn.
The boys, who are 13-9 on the season, will travel to Newark on Thursday to play North Star Academy. That game tips off at 7:30 p.m.
