Griffin Willner, a junior at Verona High School, will be performing in the ensemble of the Vanguard Theater Company’s staging of Spring Awakening at the American Theater for Actors in New York City this weekend. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater.
Set in late 19th-century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality, in a world where parents, ministers and teachers create an atmosphere of shame, silence and ignorance.
Spring Awakening will be performed by five performances only, from Friday, January 17 to Sunday, January 19. There are Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $35, and can be purchased here. The American Theatre of Actors is located at 314 West 54th Street in Manhattan.
Willner has performed with the Spotlight Players at VHS, as well as with the Studio Playhouse in Montclair.
