Super Bowl Sunday starts the same way every year in Verona: With the Verona Rescue Squad’s annual Pancake Breakfast. That means that on Sunday, February 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. you can feast on a delicious breakfast while helping the first responders who help Verona.
The Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Verona Community Center Ballroom. The cost is $7 per person for all you can eat, and children under 5 are free.
The all-volunteer Verona Rescue Squad responded to 1,705 calls for assistance in 2019, including 215 calls for mutual aid to other towns. They traveled 17,490 miles and put int 6,726 person hours on calls. The squad, which responds 24 hours a day seven days a week, says that its busiest day of the week was Saturday and the busiest time of day was between 9 a.m. and noon. Veronans of all ages needed the squad’s assistance: 11% of patients were under the age of 20 and 30% were above the age of 80. The squad brought most of the people it helped to Mountainside and Saint Barnabas, but they also transported patients to Hackensack Medical Center, Clara Maas, Morristown Memorial, University, St. Joseph’s, East Orange General, East Orange VA, Newark Beth Israel, Overlook, Chilton Memorial, St. Claire’s and Valley Hospital.
Just something to think about and be thankful for as you are enjoying your breakfast.
