Justin Fernando, MD, 81, died on November 13, 2019 in St. Joseph Medical Center. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona will be on Sunday, November 17 from 2 to 6 p.m.
A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona on Monday at 10 a.m. Born in Tuticorin, India, Dr. Fernando came to the United States in 1968 and lived in Verona for 25 years prior to moving to Clifton.
Dr. Fernando has a bachelor of science degree from Loyola College and received his medical degree from the University of Madras in Chennai, India. He worked with Catholic Missions in Ghana prior to going into private practice in Massachusetts and Passaic County, N.J.
He was known for his affinity for classical music, photography and cooking.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (nee Dietz) Fernando, his sons, Christopher (Esther), Jonathan (Megan) and Justin John, his sister Dorothy, his four grandchildren Reagan, Ava, Cameron and Tennyson (with a fifth on the way) and nieces and nephews in India.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
