There will be a free workshop on cancer prevention in teens on Thursday, May 2, at the Verona Community Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Speakers in the area of cancer prevention will briefly present on strategies to decrease cancer in adolescents, including HPV immunization. HPV is the human papillomavirus, the most common sexually transmitted infection, which can sometimes lead to cancer. There will also be a variety of free health and wellness services including screenings and educational materials.
The speakers include Dr. Gara Sommers, OB-GYN oncologist at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center; Margaret Brodowski, RN, MA, CSN, director of nursing in the Montclair Health Department; and Melinda Garcia, MPH, the Public Health Programs coordinator for the Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey.
Refreshments will be served and there will be raffle prizes and giveaways.
