On Tuesday, the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Verona High School Class of 2018 were honored at the 31st Annual Essex County Academic Awards Banquet. The event, which was held at Nanina’s in the Park, in Bloomfield, recognizes the top two students from each public high school in Essex County.

Brian Feury, the valedictorian, and Andrew Siegelin, the salutatorian, were recognized for their outstanding academic record. Each student addressed the audience by disclosing the college they plan to attend and the major they plan to pursue. Feury will be attending the University of Notre Dame and Siegelin will be attending Georgetown University.

“We are very proud of both of these students and all of the students in the Class of 2018,” said VHS Principal Josh Cogdill. “This annual event highlighted the great work of these young people and the contribution of the people in their lives.”

The event was hosted by Executive County Superintendent Joseph Zarra and attended by the students’ parents or guardians, the teachers chosen by the students as guests, by school administration, and by district superintendents.
