Tomorrow, Saturday April 22, the Verona High School girls lacrosse team will be playing Caldwell at VHS’ Sellitto Field in an Essex County Tournament quarterfinals game at 10 a.m.
The Lady Hillbillies head into the tournament with a 7-0 record and they stand atop the Freedom South league at 5-0. They are coming off a blowout 19-8 win over Gov. Livingston that saw senior Ava Anderson fire in seven goals. Anderson, who recently scored her 100th career goal, leads her team with 42 goals this season. Fellow senior Dana Pena, who has signed to play for Rutgers University, has 30 goals and nine assists so far.
The team has a broad mix of players from each VHS class. Sophomore Ashley Kenneally is in goal and has 79 saves to her credit.
There will be no rest for the team after the game: VHS players will be in front of H.B. Whitehorne washing cars in their seasonal fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
