The Verona High School boys basketball team hosted Bernards Township’s Ridge High School on Friday, December 23, for their first home game of this young season. In a convincing performance, the Hillbillies handed Ridge a 48-35 loss.

Ridge kept it close through the first three quarters, only trailing by 5 but Verona used a fourth-quarter surge to put the game out of reach. The Verona defense was strong all night, closing out on shooters and clogging the lanes to hold Ridge to only 35 points. On the offensive side, Verona used a heavy dosage of points in the paint and fastbreak buckets to maintain their lead throughout the game.

Four Hillbillies scored in double figures. Joe Zecchino (pulling up for a mid-range jumper in the video above) led with 14, Travis Jocelyn had 12, Zack Zaccone dropped 11 and Jack Farrell chipped in 10. Verona’s next game will be against Caldwell High School at Caldwell University for the Holiday Classic on Tuesday, December 27.
