On Friday, April 29, 2016, a Verona resident had her wallet taken out of her purse while she shopped in a Verona grocery store. The women noticed her wallet was missing once she went to pay at the register. A review of the surveillance video showed the suspect take the victim’s wallet while her back was turned.
The Verona Police Department released an image of the suspect to surrounding police agencies with the hope of identifying the suspect. A detective from the Morris Plains Police Department contacted us and identified the suspect as 63-year-old Charles Denmon from Elizabeth. Denmon is also the suspect in a similar theft in Morris Plains. A check of Denmon’s criminal history showed 97 previous arrests and 30 felony convictions. Denmon’s whereabouts is unknown at this time.
Shoppers are reminded to be aware of their surroundings. This individual followed the victim around the store for approximately 10 minutes before taking the wallet from the purse which was in the shopping cart. The victim was standing next to the cart when the wallet was taken.
