Yes, we know that Collin Kiernan looks way off in the distance in this photo, but that’s sort of the point. This was about as close as any of the batters from Bergen Tech got to Kiernan in Verona’s 5-0 win on Saturday: The VHS sophomore pitched a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts and two walks.
We won’t use the “S” word, but Kiernan’s pitching blitz on Saturday came on top of an April 6 three-hitter victory over Newark East Side, in which he struck out 13 batters.
All of which prompted the Star Ledger to ask yesterday “Is there any other sophomore pitcher in the state who is throwing better than Collin Kiernan?”
