Fourth Place For Girls Track As Ashley Breaks Another Record

JuliaAshley-States2015The Verona High School girls track team finished fourth overall at the State Group Track & Field Championships on Sunday, a meet that saw another school record fall to the fleet feet of senior Julia Ashley.

Ashley broke her own school record when she won the 400m in 57.96, while her sister Maggie Ashley got fourth in the 400m in 61.3. About an hour later, Julia finished second in the 800m in 2:19.0 in a very close race.

The 4 x 400m relay team of Maggie Ashley, Angel Barkley, Jessica Williams and Julia Ashley was third in 4:11.3. Ariana Matias competed in the 55m, while Barkley, Alex Luehs and Cianna Winkler all competed at high jump.

All top six places in each event qualify to compete at the Meet of Champions on Saturday, February 21, at Toms River.TrackStates2015-400M
