This afternoon, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today the arrest of three suspects in connection with the June 25 murder of Brendan Tevlin, the nephew of two Verona families. After the prosecutor’s press conference, several members of the Tevlin family gathered in Essex County’s Veterans Courthouse to make a statement, captured in the video below.
Brendan’s mother, Allison Tevlin, expressed the family’s gratitude to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the other law enforcement agencies that were involved in the capture of the suspects. “I am confident”, she said, “that the individuals responsible for taking Brendan’s life will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.” She thanked all those who have provided the family with love and support over recent weeks.
She took special pains to dispel speculation that her son had been targeted in some way for the crime. “That is entirely untrue”, she said. “Brendan was the innocent victim of a random, senseless murder.”
The family took a moment to ask that America learns from the crime, and “address the epic level of gun violence today. We want other families to be spared the tragic loss and sorrow we feel.”
The Tevlin family is a strong, Catholic family and represents all that is RIGHT in this world. The way Brendan died represents all that is wrong with it. I hope the media shows Brendan’s handsome face 1,000 times more than the evil individuals who killed him. From one Pirate family to another, Hazard Zet Forward!
Amen to everything you said, Mary. I pray that God will continue to give the family strength and will comfort their sorrow. The Tevlins are courageous and good people. Their son will always be remembered.
