AOW-Davison2Ciarra Davison’s steady focus on the tennis ball in this photo is an apt metaphor for her focus on the sport. Davison has played tennis since she was 11 years old, and is a four-year member of the Verona High School girls tennis team–the only sport she plays at VHS. And in those four years at VHS she has been a highly consistent singles player. Rising from third singles her first year to first singles as a senior, Davison has been a key factor in regular season play and  her team’s championships: Its victory over Park Ridge in the North 1, Group 1 state tennis sectionals last year and its 4-1 sectionals defeat of Pompton Lakes this year.

There have been reversals, to be sure, like the NJSIAA semifinals last Thursday, which pitted Verona against Pennsville, the Group I state champ for the last three years. But on Monday, she rallied back. Davison’s match against Montclair High School’s Alexandra Rodriguez went 6-1, 6-7, before Davison commanded the last set 6-3. For her efforts, Ciarra Davison is the Verona Sports Boosters Senior Athlete of the Week.

Davison has been a leader off the court as well. A member of the VHS Student Council, she has been inducted into both the French Honor Society and the National Honor Society, and has been involved with VHS’ Peer Leadership program and its Girls Learn International club.

During the 2013-2014 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters recognizes a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
