Poison-SafetyEach year, more than 2 million poison exposures are reported to the nation’s poison control centers. Health Educators from the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES) will conduct a free poison prevention education program sponsored by Moms of Verona/Caldwell on Monday, April 29, 2013 at The Verona Public Library located at 17 Gould Street, Verona, NJ 07044 at 7:30pm.

Programs are designed to empower NJ Residents with the necessary information to adhere to poison safe practices in their home, workplace and community. This education program will cover important safety topics such as identifying and defining poisons, poison proofing your home, medication safety, outdoor safety, and where to get help. Interactive activities and a question and answer period is included in each session which is about an hour in length. Free educational materials are provided to all participants. All are welcome to attend this important educational program.

The New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES), also known as the Poison Control Center, is a non-profit organization. It is the state’s only poison control center and our free, 24/7 emergency and information hotline (1-800-222-1222) is answered by specially trained healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, and pharmacists).  We can help callers who speak many different languages.  No question is too small and most cases can be resolved over the phone, usually avoiding an expensive, unnecessary trip to an emergency room.

As part of its public outreach initiative, NJPIES’ offers poison prevention educational programs to a variety of audiences, such as children, young adults, parents/caregivers, older adults, etc. Communities are encouraged to take advantage of NJPIES’ FREE educational opportunities. If you are interested in scheduling a program with an NJPIES’ Health Educator, please visit our website at HYPERLINK “http://www.njpies.org” www.njpies.org.

Moms of Verona/Caldwell is a group for moms in the Verona and Caldwell area to get together to meet and socialize.
