Maybe it was the midterms that did it.

With testing squared away, Verona High School’s boys and girls basketball teams got back in action last night and both came up victorious. The boys narrowly defeated Glen Ridge, 41-38, while the girls put 19 points between themselves and St. Vincent Academy with 51-32 win.

Alex Kaslander led the scoring for the boys with 18 points. Matt Braschi was close behind with 11 points and six rebounds. The high scorers for Glen Ridge were Zach Thomas and Solomon Givens.

Eighteen was also the magic number at the girls game: With her 1,000-point milestone behind her, Amanda Langan seems to be playing for the sheer thrill of it, putting up 18 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Julie Rosenberg also had a strong game, with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Flora Ajayi and Tinaya Henson led the scoring for St. Vincent.

The girls play Bloomfield at home on Tuesday afternoon, while the boys travel to Belleville Tuesday evening.
