Local Food In Winter

On Sunday, January 27, Slow Food Northern New Jersey will hold its fifth annual Local Harvest winter event at the Freylinghuyen Arboretum in Morristown. The event, which runs noon to 4 p.m., will bring together over 20 local farmers and food artisans for an afternoon of sustainably, locally produced foods to stock up on for the winter.

Visitors can purchase seasonal vegetables and fruit, grass-fed beef and pork, pastured poultry, eggs, cheese, charcuterie, breads, and prepared foods from local growers and producers while learning about Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and how to purchase seasonal farm shares. CSAs participating are School Lunch Farm in Morris County and The Community Supported Garden in Warren County. Appleridge Farm, Bobolink Dairy & Bakeyard, Churutabis Farm, Flint Hill Farm, Good Fields Farm, Griggstown Quail Farm, Plaid Piper Farm, Tassot Apiaries, and Valley Shepherd Creamery will be on hand with artisan breads, cheeses, charcuterie, honey, organic and grass-fed meats, and pastured & free-range poultry. Rogowski Farm will offer seasonal vegetables and fruit. Artisan chocolates & desserts for Valentine’s Day from Donna & Company Chocolates, and The Artist Baker. Degage Farm will offer organic herbal aromatherapy products for your Valentine.

The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is located at 353 East Hanover Avenue in Morristown. Admission is $3, which will be a donation for Slow Food Northern NJ School Vegetable Garden Programs.
