William (Bill) Timothy Hearne passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer on Monday, October 29, 2012. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona, on Friday, November 2 at 9:30 a.m. Visiting will be held in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. UPDATE: The funeral will be held at Prout Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.

Bill was born in Jersey City on January 1, 1944 to Timothy C Hearne and Margaret Hearne (Harper). Bill grew up in Bloomfield before moving to Verona 34 years ago. He graduated from Regis High School in New York City in 1961 and St. Peters College in 1965 with a degree in accounting. At St. Peters he was part of ROTC and was stationed in Fort Knox in Kentucky as well as the Demilitarized Zone in Korea for over one year in 1966. He was discharged as a captain in the U.S. Army, 7th Cavalry Division.

For most of his career, Bill worked in the accounting and the finance field. He started his accounting career with Ernst Whitney and Young but also worked for Gulf and Western Corporation, Vernitron Corporation and Carex. While working for Gulf and Western he traveled around the world and experienced many different cultures and was always happy to share his experiences with anyone that would listen.

He is survived by his wife of over 46 years, Sandra Elizabeth (nee Smith) Hearne, his sons, Michael and Daniel Hearne, W. Brendan Hearne and his wife Wacharaporn and his daughter Kerry Simon and her husband Ken. He is also survived by his brothers, James Hearne and his wife Carol, John Hearne and his wife Anna, Timothy Hearne and his wife Rosa and Robert Hearne as well as sister in law Elizabeth Hearne. He is pre-deceased by his parents Timothy Charles Hearne and Margaret Harper Hearne and brother Edward Hearne.

Bill was an avid reader of military history, a lifelong NY Yankees and NY Giants Fan. He also loved to fish and has many fond memories of camping with his family. His greatest joy were his three grandchildren; Kyle and Molly Simon and Keenan Hearne who will miss him dearly.
