On Saturday, August 18, racers from kindergarten through 8th grade blazed some fast laps on the dedicated Kid’s Korse, a challenging track designed for kids racing and general use throughout the year. Families and young racers came from all over New Jersey and even New York and Pennsylvania to compete for medals and bragging rights. The day started with a light rain but by the beginning of the first race for K – 1st grade riders, the skies were clearing and racers were smiling.
Cole Smith from Verona took an early lead in his four lap race (2.4 miles) and even with a crash, was able to hang on for a first place finish in the grade 6 – 8 class.
Volunteer support was provided by a number of Verona and Cedar Grove residents and Cycle Craft of Parsippany brought their technical support to ensure bikes were ready to race. Next year’s race is already being planned for August 18.
