Chloe Mathewson will be heading to the state spelling championship after a third-place finish in the Central Regional Spelling Bee held on February 25.
Mathewson, pictured above in white, is a fourth grade student at Laning Avenue elementary school. She got to the regional bee after winning the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona’s local bee on January 28.
She will now compete against other fourth and fifth graders from towns throughout New Jersey in the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs – Junior Membership State Spelling Bee. The state spelling bee will be held on March 10 at Douglass College in New Brunswick.
