The first round of the Region 4 wrestling tournament took place last night at West Orange High School and, as a result, there will be more Verona wrestlers in the quarterfinals on Friday. Tom Cundari, who had finished in third place in the District 13 championship, won his Wednesday night match by pinning Chris Fitzgerald of Ridgefield Park in 3:12. Joe Festa, who had had a second place finish at districts, won by points with a 6-1 victory over Terrence Antoine of Bloomfield.

Cundari and Festa will join Paul Scully, Frankie Greco and Joe Cordasco, their teammates who had first place finishes at districts. Cundari takes on No. 2 seed Francisco Colom of St. Peter’s Prep in the quarterfinals, which will begin at West Orange High School at 6 p.m. The regions’ semifinals will be on Saturday, also in West Orange.
