The Verona boys team suffered their fourth loss of the season in a tough game at Morris Knolls High School in an out-of-conference match-up. The Hillbillies fell behind early and were never able to get back on track. Trailing by 10 points after the first quarter, they went into half time down 34-21. Verona throughout the season has done well offensively after the half-time break, but Morris Knolls didn’t slow down and outscored the Maroon and White 24-11 in the third quarter on their way to a 67-43 victory. Senior Captain Brian
Farrell led the way for Verona with 16 points and sophomore Alex Kaslander netted 13, aided by three three-pointers. The next game for the boys will be Friday in a rare night game that will start at 6 p.m. after the JV game.

The girls team also suffered a tough out-of-conference defeat, theirs at the hands of Fairlawn High School. Down 28-12 at half time, they just weren’t able to battle back and fell 53-24 to drop to 2-8 on the season. Caroline Mols and Amanda Cummings led the Hillbillies in scoring. Julie Rosenberg hit a three-pointer from long range to finish with three points along with Amanda Langan. Remy Sullivan, Sarah O’Neil, Michelle Frungillo, Brielle Cummings and Emily Aaron accounted for the rest of the Verona scoring. The girls travel to take on the Tornados of Orange High School in a Saturday afternoon match-up starting at 1 p.m.
