Church Street is closed for its much-needed resurfacing and repaving, but the Verona Rescue Squad wants you to know that it is still ready to help you if you need it.

Verona Rescue Squad Captain Matt Antolino has made arrangements with Verona Fire Department Chief Pat McEvoy to house two ambulances at Firehouse One near the Verona Community Center. The third ambulance and the heavy rescue truck will be stationed at the Department of Public Works garages on Ozone Avenue. When the emergency horn sounds for a call, Rescue Squad members will report to the firehouse first. “During construction, we do not expect any delay in response times and will be able to continue to provide the same high level of service that we have become known for”, Antolino said in a statement.

The Rescue Squad headquarters has been located on Church Street since 1942. The last time that there was a similar disruption due to road construction was in the 1980s. It is
anticipated that the temporary relocation of vehicles will last through the end of the year.
