Sledding on Laning hill last year

My cousin Leonora remembers the winter when the construction crews began cutting the road that would become Woodland Avenue. When it snowed, she got on her sled at what is now the intersection of Elmwood and rode it down almost all the way to the Peckman.

We doubt we could ask Chuck Molinaro and the Public Works Department to not plow one of Verona’s big hilly streets now. So our kids will have to content themselves with the slopes at Laning, in Verona Park or on the old Essex County Hospital grounds. The road down from the Hilltop to Fairview is another possibility if you can get there, as is the hill in back of Morgan’s Farm in Cedar Grove.

  1. Maybe just maybe the board of education dept. would kindly install some sort of gate near the top of the hill at laning. When they created the ball field there a couple of years ago they blocked off a portion of that hill to put up the fence to enclose the field.
