For the first time ever, a Verona wrestler has won the region championship. Yesterday Colin Farawell, the tournament’s second seed, defeated top-seed Michael Scrozzo of Queen of Peace in the title bout, 4-2, in the 189 weight class. Farawell came back from a 2-0 deficit in the second period against Scrozzo to score a take-down in the second and start the third with a 3-2 lead. He will wrestle for the state title in Atlantic City next weekend.

Verona senior Sean Shabazian also earned a berth in the region tournament and fought hard in three bouts but was eliminated in the wrestleback.
