Three Verona residents will be among the experts participating in a four-part forum on restoring an older home co-sponsored by the Montclair Historical Society and the Van Vleck House and Gardens.
On January 23, Chuck Baum from Colour Dynamics, and Verona Landmarks Preservation Commission members Jane Eliasof and Pat Hynes kick off the first session, which will cover the basics of planning and executing the restoration of an older home. The talk will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Charles Shultz House (Evergreens), which is at 30 North Mountain Avenue in Montclair. Other panel members will include Jeff Farrell from Cambridge Construction and Michael Margolies of Eclectic Architecture.
There will be three additional lectures as part of the series, “Your Old Home: Preserving, Restoring, and Sensitive Remodeling Your Home.” On February 27, the discussion will focus on common interior projects. This talk will be held at the Clark House, 108 Orange Road in Montclair. On March 20, Marta McDowell, a well-known lecturer on historic gardens will lead a landscape workshop at the Van Vleck House, which is at 21 Van Vleck Street in Montclair. The final workshop, on exterior, is scheduled for Saturday, May 15 at the Montclair Historical Society, which is at 108 Orange Road, in Montclair.
All of the workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $10 per workshop, or $35 for all four, and the fee includes a complimentary annual membership to the Montclair Historical Society. There is no charge for members of the Montclair Historical Society and the Van Vleck House and Gardens.
