Volunteers make Verona tick. They help our schools, sports, scouting, music, after-school activities and religious communities to be as good as they are. Time and time again, we see our friends and neighbors spend hours of what could be their down time sharing their passion with Verona’s next generation.
Sometimes these volunteers are put in the spotlight. The Verona High School Alumni Association just recognized Mike Passero at its Hall of Fame dinner for the decades he has spent with the Verona Eagles organization. But, all too often, they are not.
So we’re giving you a way to thank the volunteers who run your favorite activities, with a digital thank you note posted here for all the world to see. And we’re kicking it off with a round of applause for the Verona Junior Wrestling coaches.
Bill Scully, Sean Camp, Chris Esposito, Russ Zamloot, Joe Pecci, John Gabriele, Rob Shabazian, George Anderson, Sam Zamloot, Bill O’Brien, Nick Hildebrandt, Joe Fitzgerald and Dante Mercurio are on the mats at the F.B. Brown school gym two nights a week, Saturday mornings and at many, many meets, teaching squirmy first graders through middle schoolers that real wrestling has nothing to do with the spandex stuff on TV. They coax and cajole the kids, channeling their crazy energy into a difficult and exacting sport. They give them skills that the kids take on to VHS wrestling and beyond.
Our thanks to all of you, and your many behind-the-scenes helpers.
Do you want to thank someone in our community for help or a job well done? Drop us an e-mail.
I would just like to thank all the Jr. Wrestling coaches for all of their time and commitment to our kids. One in particular goes above and beyond and doesn’t get nearly enough recognition…..Sean Camp. He has made a difference in my son’s life and gives him the confidence he needs, not just in wrestling but in life as well. Thanks Coach Camp…….you truly are one of a kind.
I have to agree 100% with Jennifer. Coach Camp has been so instrumental in my son’s growth not only as a wrestler but as a person. This is my son’s second year wrestling, he’s in 2nd Grade and the passion that Coach Camp shows for these kids is contagious. My son has developed confidence from this sport and i believe that stems from the mat and from the coaches. Great job to all the coaches looking forward to another amazing season!
I have been through four sons wrestling for Verona and I feel by far the Verona wrestling coaches including the high school have the most commited individuals that mold our children into confident young men!
Thank you to all the Verona Wrestling Coaches. My son has been part of this Outstanding organization since he was in 2nd grade. They have taught him a lot. They have supported him thru wins and losses and they have taught him that inorder to succeed in this sport you must fail first and learn from that experience.
Looking forward to another great season this year!!!
