The Star Ledger is heaping honors on some VHS cross country runners. The paper has named Verona cross country star Dave Oster its 2009 Essex County Runner of the Year, as well as to its All-Essex boys first team. Teammate Dave Lukas made second team boys. Heather Sweeney and Kelly Scully made the paper’s girls All-Essex team, first team and second team respectively.

The paper has a nice profile of Oster’s season and the training regimen he has followed to build his strength. Oster is in San Diego now for Saturday’s 2009 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships and had this to say about that race:

“I just want to go out and have a good race and have a good time,” said Oster. “There are not real expectations. I’m just excited to finish my season at nationals. I couldn’t ask for much more.”
