The Woman’s Club of Verona recently made donations to the Verona Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and the service organization’s contributions were both matched by Verona UNICO, the Italian-American service organization.
Coni Evans and Joanne Arroyo, co-presidents of the Woman’s Club, presented a $700 check to Fire Chief Steven Tedesco and Firefighter Kevin Toscano, who is also a member of Verona UNICO. The Italian-American group had already donated $1,400 to the Fire Department, and had promised to match donations made by other organizations.
Evans and Arroyo gave another $700 check to Tom Jung, second vice president and fund drive chair of the Verona Rescue Squad. Pam Blake, a member of both the Woman’s Club and UNICO, assisted in the donation. Both the Verona Fire Department and Verona Rescue Squad are all-volunteer first responder services that depend on community donations to keep their operations going.
As the club marked the donations, it made two changes to its ranks. Maddie Straus was installed as club treasurer and Anna Finocchiaro joined as a new member.
The Woman’s Club of Verona is a non-political, non-sectarian and non-commercial service organization that has been working on community issues for more than a century. The club supports scholarships for high school seniors who live in Verona and who have actively participated in service to the community, their house of worship, or a non-profit charitable organization.
