Neale Wins County 800m Championship

Verona High School sophomore Gwendolyn Neale won the 800m at the Essex County Track & Field Championships on Friday, in a time of 2:13.99, the second fastest 800m by a VHS girl.

The two-day meet, which was held at the Schools Stadium in Newark, also saw several Verona girls placing and a VHS record broken.

Marley Kramer took third place in javelin with a throw of 98’7”. Marguerite Valera took third place in pole vault with a vault of 8’6”. Maile O’Neill finished in fifth place in the 100m with a time of 12.57, breaking the VHS girls record. Lauren Czupak took sixth place in the 3200m with a time of 12:05.47.

The girls results enabled Verona to finish as the top small school in the meet.
