Rain Moves Memorial Day Ceremony Indoors

Verona Memorial Day 2017With storms closing in on Verona, township officials have canceled the Memorial Day parade and moved the ceremony to Town Hall at 10 a.m. If it is raining, it will be indoors; if the rain holds off, it will be on the steps.

Memorial Day is a solemn federal holiday to honor those who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The names of Verona residents who died in World War I are on the Doughboy statue in front of Town Hall, while those who died in World War II are on the granite monument closer to H.B. Whitehorne Middle School. Those who died in Vietnam are on a plaque inside Town Hall. No Veronans died in the Korean conflict. The names of the dead will be read during the Memorial Day ceremony and Verona Scouts will put flags on the monuments. The dead are:
