All of Verona High School’s spring sports teams have made the playoffs this year, and everything kicks off with a bang on Wednesday, May 22.

First up is baseball, which is the #2 seed in the NJSIAA’s North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 bracket. It takes on #15 seed Payne Tech at 2 p.m. at home. Baseball has had a 16-9 season, and it is 8-4 in the Super Essex Conference’s Liberty division.

The action for softball, girls lacrosse and boys tennis all begins at 4 p.m., also on VHS’ home fields and courts.

VHS softball is the #5 seed in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 bracket. Verona, which is 12-9 overall and 10-1 in the SEC’s Liberty division, will face #12 Secaucus.

Girls lacrosse will be the #6 seed against #11 Kittatinny Regional in the North Jersey, Group 1 bracket. It has been a rebuilding year for the girls, who were moved to a higher bracket after losing last year’s final to Mountain Lakes by one point, and then losing eight seniors. Their game will be on Sellitto Field, the upper field at VHS.

Boys tennis is the #5 seed in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1. It plays #12 seed Cedar Grove on Thursday. Tennis has a 12-8 record this year, and the team is 6-2 in the SEC’s Colonial division.

That leaves boys lacrosse, which is the #11 seed in the South Jersey, Group 1. In a rematch of last year’s playoffs, it will play #6 Glen Ridge, likely on Saturday and likely in Glen Ridge. Boys lacrosse has a 10-8 record, and is 4-2 in NJILL’s Klank division.
