What 5th Grade Is Really Like

Many things ran through my head when I was going into fifth grade. I was very excited to get my schedule. I was very happy to hear about my teachers and what kind of things we would be doing this year. Of course though I was nervous going in to fifth grade–it is a big step for a fourth grader. I hope if you are going to be a fifth grader you are excited too. I also think fifth grade and going into a new school will be a great chance to meet all new friends.

I got my schedule in the beginning of August. Getting my schedule was new to me: In elementary school we got one teacher and we got that at the end of the year. I was very nervous, and I ask myself now why was I nervous? You never know what to expect. I mean, sure, we have the tour in fourth grade but that does not teach you everything you need to know. I didn’t even know what my teachers were going to be like. I know there are many things you are worried about but honestly you don’t have to be.

I had Mr. Rossi, Ms. Gasalberti, and Ms. Lopez. Whoever you get you will have an exciting and educational year. I heard so many great things that we would be doing that year. Like all the trips we would take. The things we would learn. And how helpful some of classes would be to everyday life. But fifth grade will be a great year to see what classes you can work on, which ones you have great skills in, and which only have room for improvement. Still I was unsure about a lot of things.

I was nervous. I asked questions like: What if I don’t make it class on time? What will the teachers be like? Is there a lot of switching classes? How much homework will I be getting? What if I didn’t like my teachers? What if I forgot what I needed for my next class? Are the classes harder than in elementary school? Are there a lot of kids in the school? How many kids will there be in my grade? How big are our lockers? Will it be hard going to your locker in between classes? Are our classes going to be near each other? But as many questions as I asked and as many that did not get answered, within the first few days of school they were all answered.

Finally I was in fifth grade. I was excited when I got my schedule. I was anxious to find out what my teachers were going to be like and what I would learn. I had so many questions about fifth grade. Within the first two weeks of school found out that there was absolutely nothing to be worried about. I hope you have a great year in fifth grade. Have fun and good luck!
