She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Louise (nee Crismond) Michelsen, and her brothers, John A. Michelsen and Jerome A. Michelsen.

Born in Cincinnati, Judy was the eldest daughter of the late John H. and M. Louise Michelsen. Judy lived on Winding Way in Verona during her elementary school years. The family moved to Burlingame, California, then returned to New Jersey and lived in Montclair.

After graduating from Montclair High School in 1958, Judy began living her passion for helping others by pursing a career in nursing. She attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in NYC. She dedicated her life as a Registered Nurse. She married James Ammeen and moved to Verona, pausing her career to raise their children.

Judy worked in doctor’s offices for several years before resuming her career full-time at a St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York. She returned to Montclair and took a position as Supervising Nurse in Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation at Beth Israel in Newark. She took a position as Supervising Nurse, Mental Health Unit at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge. Judy served there until a health condition caused her to retire in 2002. Judy’s commitment to nursing embodied her compassion and desire to positively impact people’s lives.

Judy loved animals, raising many throughout her life. She enjoyed antiques, art, music, and sports. Judy played tennis and golf. She was known for fashion, style, and creativity. She was a great listener and trustworthy friend. Judy’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

We encourage you to leave memories and upload photos of Judy to the memorial page as we celebrate her and the love she shared. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the Montclair Animal Shelter would be greatly appreciated.
