On Sunday, May 21 at both the 8 a.m. and the 10 a.m. worship services, the Church of the Holy Spirit in Verona will welcome motivational speaker and Verona High School Class of 1988 graduate, Scott Chesney, as guest preacher. Scott is also a life coach and consultant who has spoken to over 1.5 million people in 43 countries. Since awakening to paralysis at the age of 15, Scott has lived an extraordinary life full of passion, purpose, and service to others that is captured in “Ride the Wave,” a documentary about Scott’s life that was released worldwide in 2020. Currently, Scott resides in Verona with his wife and two children. For additional information on Scott, visit scottchesney.com.
Scott and Father Jerry Racioppi, Holy Spirit Rector, met in 2016 during a recording of an interview for the Verona Chamber of Commerce. Scott was speaking about his motivational speaking business and Father Jerry was introducing the community to the Holy Spirit Verona Food Pantry. Since then, they have stayed connected via Facebook, and are excited to finally share direct work together.
Father Jerry said, “we are excited to hear Scott’s inspiring words and suggestions for how to live in a time such as this. I am grateful for the opportunity to get to know Scott in planning for his visit to our welcoming community.”
Holy Spirit Assisting Clergy, Reverend Katherine Rollo, and Scott (in featured photo) have recently become connected through an event in Mountainside, N.J., honoring the memory of Jim Pascuiti who had quadriplegia, whom they both admired. It really is a small Verona world.
